History is made today, June 3, 2008 as Barack Obama reaches the magic number of 2118 to secure the nomination of the Democratic Party.
After five long months in the most highly contested nomination in the history of America, the Democratic Party has identified their candidate who will face John McCain in the national election.
The next question is what will Hillary do? Will Hillary suspend her personal war and rally behind Barack Obama, or will she continue with her tired little game? Will Hillary position herself to be selected as the Vice Presidential candidate, or will she resist? Will America heal her wounds of racial indifference, and move forward under the revised standard of unity?
Hillary Clinton is a valuable asset to the Democratic Party, and will contribute to the party's overall success in November 2008. In my opinion, the best bet for the Democratic Party to secure the White House would be for Obama and Clinton to come together on the same ticket. Hillary's popularity combined with Obama's drive creates what will be a truly unbeatable ticket, and represents the best opportunity to heal the wounds and unify the party.
Several harsh words were spoken, ugly allegations were made, nasty fingers were pointed. All in all, it was an ugly 5 months, and the worst part of it all was the country, myself included, became fully engulfed in the venom of the campaign. Now we are presented with the opportunity to present a unified front against the Republicans. Will it happen, or will it merely be a dream?
My hat is off to both candidates. Hillary Clinton illustrated a strong resolve, and incredible sense of dedication to our wonderful nation. Barack Obama never wavered from his message of change. Despite the arrows fired at him, Obama stood on his principles and maintained his focus on what is best for the nation. Both candidates are wonderful people and excellent leaders. Both would place our nation on a positive path to recovery. Let us now focus on what is most important, that being changing the direction of our nation for the better.
