When we think of the Republican party, we envision strength, leadership, firmness, fearlessness. Very rarely have we associated fear with the Republican party, until now.
The Republican front runner, and -from the looks of things- nominee is John McCain. Thus far the Democratic nominee is still up in the air, but the Republican nominee appears to be locked. It is not a secret that John McCain does not give the Republican party that warm and fuzzy feeling they have come to expect from maybe a Mitt Romney, or a Mike Huckabee. McCain is more of a liberal Republican as opposed that the extreme right wingers that the party has come to know and love. Never the less, McCain is becoming the Republican poster child for the general election in November 2008.
That should not be a problem for the Republican party, right? After all, the Democrats have failed to field anything viable since 1992. For all intensive purposes, the general election should be a walk in the he park for the Republican party; however, they failed to give early enough credit to a political dark horse. Seems the Republicans did not take into account the "David of The Democrats". Fact of the matter is, most Republicans regarded Barack Obama as nothing more than a mere passing fad, a simple bit of dust in the wind. They gave his campaign little if any thought until they realized that Barack Obama was eating into their core demographics. Suddenly the lights came on, and the Republican party began to realize that they are beatable.
Comparing notes, the Republicans became aware that John McCain lacks the charismatic style of Barack Obama, does not have the ability to motivate like Barack Obama, and will simply have a rough battle against Barack Obama. In the eyes of the Republican party, their best chance for winning the general election rests in the Democratic party nominating Hillary Clinton.
During a recent interview with Mike Gallagher, host of the conservative radio talk show The Mike Gallagher Show, several registered Texas Republicans are casting early votes for Hillary Clinton to help her get the Democratic nomination. They are doing so because, in the eyes of the Republican party, Hillary is a lot easier to beat than Barack Obama.
In short America, the GOP is afraid to go toe to toe against Barack Obama. They have not ammunition credible enough to combat Barack Obama. Because of this fact, the Republicans are setting out to muddy the waters of the Democratic primaries. Call it 21st Century Water Gate if you may.
For my friends who respond in the AOL forums, please keep in mind that some of the "Go Hillary" posts may very well be Republicans trying to get the ire up in the Democratic party. Just as with all typical Republicans, they are playing on your emotions and your fears. Don't' believe the hype.
