Headlines Of An Execution
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush has not seen the illicit video of Saddam Hussein's execution because he is focused on the "way forward" in Iraq, the White House said on Wednesday.
>> Now let me ask you this; As visable as that grainy video was, how is it possible that Bush did not see it? I know what the news says, but you know me, I have a totally different theory. Bush did not see the video simply because Bush did not care to see it. "Focused on The Way Forward in Iraq"? What kind of crap is that? There is no way forward in Iraq, it is a quagmire, just as Vietnam was. The only way forward is to figure a way out for our troops. It will not be long before the Sunni's escalate their response to the execution of Saddam, and when that happens we will have another Vietnam. Bush can pretend all he wants. He did not see the video because he chose not to witness his handywork. He got his wish, he killed the man who wanted to kill his daddy. Did not fix a thing in Iraq, but it sure helped him get his rocks off.
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. forces had no role in Saddam Hussein's hanging, but would have handled it differently, a U.S. general said on Wednesday as Iraqi authorities questioned a guard over a video of officials taunting Saddam on the gallows.
>> Well this one is not exactly true. The US Military handed him (Saddam) over to the Iraqi government. Other than that, I agree that the hands of our military members are clean. I do believe that the entire process would have been handled differently under the jurisdiction of a US Military court. A conviction in a US Military Court requires a Perponderous of Evidence. I am not saying that the outcome would have been any different, nor would I have desired to see a different outcome; however, I do feel that Saddam would have faced justice in all of the crimes he was charged with. I can't say that I would have agreed with the Death Penalty. I would have preferred to stick him away is some dank isolated cell, surrounded by pigs, and far removed from anything intelligent. Just put him there and leave him there until nature took him to the end of his days. To me, that would have been more preferential than turning him into a Martyr.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Bush administration sent conflicting signals Wednesday about the taunting and baiting that accompanied Saddam Hussein's execution, with the White House declining to join criticism of the procedure and the State Department and U.S. military raising questions about it.
>> Ok, Ok. So check this out. The Bush Administration refuses to take a position on the taunting of Saddam Hussein during the execution process. I wonder if Bush was wishing there was a way to say "Ah-Ha, That's what you get for wanting to kill my daddy!"? Look, I am noone's expert on the death penalty, or execution processes; additionally, I am not one who had any kind of love for Saddam Hussein, but still, even a lowly dog deserves to die with dignity. Ok, maybe in the eyes of the world Saddam was considered like a maggot on a piece of dog crap, and that is fine, but even the maggot is allowed to turn into a fly before it is swatted. Then again, the flip side of the arguement is that Saddam did not allow his country people to die with dignity when he released poison gas on them. This is give or take. Personally, I would have merely smiled with the knowledge that Saddam's tyrany will no longer plague the nation. At least that would have given the impression of a dignified execution.
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Iraqi authorities reported the arrests Wednesday of two guards and an official who supervised Saddam Hussein's hanging and said the guard force was infiltrated by outsiders who taunted the former leader and shot the video showing his body dangling at the end of a rope.
>> Oh, spare me the acrimony!! We have a police force that is trained by the finest military in the world, and you mean to tell me that the Guard Force was infiltrated by outsiders? Who in the heck do they think they are fooling. Let's talk about that camera phone. First, Iraq is a third world nation that has been financially oppressed by the world's sole remaining superpower for more than a decade prior to Saddam being toppled. The camera phone used had features that make even the best that Verizon has to offer look like a cheap knock off. That tells me that the phone was supplied by someone with ties to the western world. Then again, one of the guards looked as if he was wearing Kahki pants and a US Navy green Aviator's Jacket. Heck he could have gotten that from a military surplus depot, who the heck knows. Afterall, the US Military had nothing to do with the execution.
-- Look, just like many in the world, I am glad Saddam Hussein is dead, but I am still curious about such things as the timing of the event, and the verbal exchange prior to the execution. Ccconsidering the way it was carried out, the death of Saddam Hussein appears to be more like an assassination as opposed to an execution. I could be wrong, and if I am, why rush the execution before the Kurds and the Kuwaitis has their say in court? So many unanswered questions.
